History of Bakkwa

In the olden time, people were living in poor & could hardly afford to buy meats because meats are very costly. Once they bought meats, they are reluctant to finish them at once. Hence people would preserve the meats by marinating them & proportion them to consume gradually. After the process of marinating, the ordinary meats became a unique flavour dried food.
Besides for own consumption, people would carry them when they were out for wars, hunting or travelling. During festive seasons, the community/villages would bring out their marinated meat to share among each other Since then, they named it “dried meat”, which are the barbecued dried meat that we have today As time goes by, people regarded barbecued dried meat as premium gift, decent and generous. Today, barbecued dried meat has become an indispensable food & also become one of the main foods during Chinese New Year.

Yuen Chen Siang Timeline

Incorporated in 1969, where it started as a small business. The production was solely on Master Goh himself. He rode on his bicycle to the back streets in Muar to sell the barbecued meats.

Because of the fresh & delicious pork he sold at affordable price, lots of women loved to buy from him. As such, the brand name of Muar Yuen Chen Siang was spread tremendously.

Till the 80’s, an easy & elegant era of the times. With Master Goh and his sons’ continuous efforts & beliefs, the brand name Yuen Chen Siang has a considerable reputation in the southern part of Malaysia & Malacca. Thereafter, Master Goh has set up a few distribution outlets at prime locations in Muar, Malacca, Johor Bahru & Segamat. At that same time, the company has adopted hygienic, convenient & prime packaging boxes. The company also has its first van as a mobile selling platform.
Tapping on the advantages of Quality, packaging & location gave Master Goh greater inspiration.

From 1983 to 1990, the health conscious era, with the transferring of dietary habit knowledge from different generations coupled with continuous research and improvement, introduction of new technology, Master Goh prepared his products using prime quality pork blend with his ancient secret recipe. Master Goh has successfully invented great appearance, great flavour and tasty barbecued dried meat.

Yuen Chen Siang started to expand their selling network to Seremban, Kuala Lumpur and Penang.

Today, the brand name and quality of Yuen Chen Siang is recognised by the public. We have successfully invented more than 20 different types of products.
